20th anniversary of the Swiss Conservation-Restoration Campus

On October 18 and 19, 2025, the Swiss Conservation-Restoration Campus (Swiss CRC) marked its 20th anniversary with two public events. These celebrations offered insights into the diverse field of conservation and restoration, highlighting its many specializations. The events took place at two locations of the Swiss National Museum: the Landesmuseum Zürich and the Collection Center in Affoltern am Albis.

Swiss CRC Anniversary 2025

18.10.2025: Join in – Conservation in Action

Around 150 visitors of all ages gathered at the Landesmuseum Zürich to explore hands-on activities and demonstrations at 14 interactive tables. Guests learned how broken glass is repaired, how cracks in paintings are sewn, and how to distinguish stucco from artificial marble, while also engaging with X-ray images of textiles and pigment analysis in wall paintings. The lively exchange between students and young visitors was a highlight, with many teenagers showing particular interest in the restoration of ceramics, glass, and the mechanics of cultural objects.

19.10.2025: Looking behind the Scenes – Conservation in Action

At the Collection Center in Affoltern am Albis, visitors discovered projects by current and former Swiss CRC students and viewed objects from the Swiss National Museum’s collection. Guided tours through the storage facilities and workshops revealed the stories behind items ranging from prehistoric wooden artifacts to modern cultural icons like Roger Federer’s tennis racket. Participants also learned about conservation processes, material testing, and the interdisciplinary collaboration required to preserve heritage objects.
